About Sudbourne

Sudbourne village is tucked a short distance from the River Alde between Orford and Snape in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It lies a short way from the sea surrounded by countryside of a gentle nature, located close to Tunstall Forest.

The village is known for its neat rows of terraced cottages, and for the lovely church dedicated to All Saints. Standing within a peaceful walled churchyard the church of All Saints was almost entirely rebuilt in the Victorian era by William Barnes. The churchyard is littered with old and modern graves which seemingly have no particular order, yet they present a picture of tranquillity as the church watches quietly over them. Inside there is some good carving, an impressive font and in the sanctuary there is a stunning monument to Sir Michael Stanhope who died in 1621.

There are several handsome houses in the village together with other delightful cottages, some have been restored to provide holiday accommodation for those wishing to be just a short distance away from the sea.

Being on the famed Suffolk Heritage Coast visitors can expect to enjoy wonderful sea air beneath beautiful soft Suffolk skies where it is not unusual to see flights of seabirds and geese in the early part of the evening. All around are interesting villages to explore, little lanes to travel down with hedgerows full of wild plants, bordered by woodlands and orchards.

The village is ideal for visiting picturesque Orford, a village made famous by its castle, other attractive places are Aldeburgh, Leiston, Woodbridge and The Maltings for its famous concert hall.

There are lots of opportunities for the leisurely pursuits of sailing, horse riding, birdwatching, cycling or simply relaxing by ambling around the village, or watching the pleasure boats in Aldeburgh Bay
