Built in 1854 to pump water from the workings of the Great Laxey Mining Company, Laxey Wheel is positioned near to the hamlet of Agneash and overlooks the village of Laxey. The Wheel was named 'Lady Isabella' in honour of the islands Governor's wife. It is said to be the largest water wheel in Europe, if not the world, with a diameter of over 72 feet, a width of 6feet, and is capable of pumping 250 gallons of water per minute.
