About Hartlebury

Hartlebury is an interesting little village in that it shows some quaint and interesting properties that are fortunately preserved from the ravages of traffic which now thunders down the main by-pass towards Kidderminster. Here, once stood the moated castle that was home to the Bishop's of Worcester for over a thousand years. The present mansion was built on the old site in 1675 and was the subject of much restoration in 1964. The Great Hall is the most magnificent of the State rooms and the 18th-century rococo saloon is impressive. There is a Portrait gallery and a Library. This noble building is well worth a visit.

Hartlebury Common was declared a nature reserve in the late 1970's, it is a pleasant and extremely interesting site with a wealth of wildlife and several picnic spots. The ancient stone village church lies close to the common and a short distance away you will find Stone House Cottage Garden. The delightful River Stour is within easy reach, so too is the popular town of Stourport-upon-Severn which offers river fishing and day trips on the Severn. The pretty town of Bewdley is worth seeing and the West Midland Safari Park offers a wonderful day out for all the family.
