Gooseberry bush

After talking about Gooseberries oven in the weather thread, I got to wondering how other people prepare and serve them.

We had some huge gooseberry bushes when I was growing up, but I only remember my mum preparing them in a fool or a pie; so therefore I am interested to see how everyone else eats them.

We have grown a few pink gooseberries.  Had some yesterday just with custard, very nice.

As they ripen Sue straight off the bush!

Or in a pie/tart, boiled/stewed maybe but always with cream, or custard. Happens to be a good year for them this time with plenty of fruit per thorny, and I mean 'horrendously thorny' bushes!

Wow, I just started eating fools.  I gave up the pre-packaged fools from the supermarket because they're loaded with sugar.  I just eat plain yogurt and add my own fruit.  But I think in yogurt, whole gooseberries would be good.

I think I read an article one time for gooseberry wine...Mother Earth News magazine. British Cookbook says pie or sauce, never eat raw.
