Description

Evening light, Solva

Solva is a village situated on the northern side of St.Bride's Bay in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Geographically, the anchorage is a good example of a valley flooded by the sea, known as a 'ria'. In June 2014 the location was used for the filming of Dylan Thomas's 'Under Milkwood'. Offshore is a dangerous reef called The Smalls: the original lighthouse for the reef was built out of wood in Solva in 1776 and towed out by a barge. The lighthouse had two keepers but in 1801 one died in a freak accident. Afraid of being accused of murder the survivor tied the body to the structure to keep it until the next relief boat arrived. From that time on there had to be three lighthouse keepers on lighthouses.

Beautiful shot David, the depth of the colours and the way all the boats point in the same direction by the ebb and flow make a great shot. Needless to say another very useful text.
