About Southport

Ideally situated on the Fylde Coast at the edge of a vast area known as the Lancashire Plains, is the traditional seaside resort of Southport.

Southport remains very much a mixture of modern entertainment and victorian elegance. Long established gardens and parks contrast sharply with new amusement areas. Lord Street, is a broad boulevard that houses some enticing shops and this too stands out against the newer shops and booths that line the front.

Churchtown, the oldest part of Southport, has clusters of tiny thatched cottages, old inns and is home to the superb Victorian Botanic Gardens.

Sport too, is well catered for in this area. The prestigeous Royal Birkdale Golf Club is close-by. This course has hosted the Ryder Cup and other noteworthy tournaments.

As you would expect from a coastal resort, there are miles of golden sand that during the summer months are used for swimming from and sunbathing. However, should you be an early riser, it is not unusual to witness race-horses training on the sands.

There is an abundance of pleasurable things to do in Southport, whatever your interest, there is assuredly something for everyone. Given its premier position on the coast one thing you can be sure of is tasty fish and seafood, all freshly prepared and served throughout most of the inns and restaurants in the town. There are also a host of Fish and Chip shops!
