Snake it is John, Snake Wood, Snake Weed and Grass Snake, well done and over to you. I think Ken will agree with me when I say that Australia has most of the worlds poisonous snakes, and spiders.

The worst that happened to me over there was I got a leech in my boot and it helped itself to a good pint of blood out of my ankle. Didn't know it had taken up lodgings until I got back to the hotel to find my sock covered in blood.

Yes, Australia has a lot of venomous snakes and spiders.Fortunately, the snakes are inoffensive and very shy.Sri Lanka has nearly fifty people per million people deaths each year from snakebite but Australia only has 0.13/million deaths each year from snakebite.

I would assume Ken that Australia may be better prepared for the  treatment of snake bites as well.

Yes Ruth, that is correct. A lot of research has been done in Australia. Antivenin or antivenene supplies are readily available at hospitals and the appropriate first aid is widely publicized. Some of the snakes in Sri Lanka are more aggressive than the ones in Australia.
