Chloroform in Victory V's, yuk! I was too young to know, and no doubt too young to care. I certainly wouldn't touch them now. I've never heard of Kop Kops, what kind of sweet were they Karen? And Jason, when I was young we use to watch the Saturday afternoon wrestling (I HATE wrestling by the way) as a family and we would eat Bluebird Toffee. Fond memories. |

We would bring out the 'sweet tin' usually full of hard toffee, Mars bars when they were 3d and way bigger than they are now. |

Most of the sweets you all mention are still alive and kicking (or licking!) so to speak. There are a few little sweet shops in the town that sell most of the aforementioned treats, mostly in jars, but be prepared to pay a bit for them. A quarter of sweets aren't a couple of pennies like they used to be. Victory V sweets are available everywhere still (although they don't taste quite the same if you ask me) and sherbet dips still exist, I'm sure. Swizzel lollies can still be found (in multipacks of course) and I even bought some bazooka bubble gum in Florida, they still have the bazooka Joe cartoon!!!! If you like milk bottles, parma violets or sherbet lemons, look around.....you'll still find them. The one sweet that I remember well (because I lost my first tooth eating one), is the XL bubble gum, round and pink and very tasty as I recall. Andy. |

I had a friend who used to go and watch them wrestle at the Guildhall, Southampton. I went a few times, if only to shout FIX!!, and was lucky enough to see Big Daddy (Shirley Crabtree), Giant Haystacks, and many more. Thank goodness it's not on the telly anymore We Will Forget it quickly no doubt. Did you see what I did there? |
