At first glance, I thought this must be a picture of the ugliest church I have ever seen. Further research reveals that the strange appearance was the result of the collapse of the tower in 1724 followed by further deterioration in 1836.

Yes Edward and unfortunately modern additions were carried out for convenience reasons and not aesthetics.
