Description

Spring Wood

White bluebells in Spring Wood at Whalley in Lancashire .... it's a semi-natural ancient woodland, this means that there has been a woodland on the site since before 1600. Many woodlands from this period do not exist anymore as they were cleared to make way for agricultural land. Spring Wood was once owned by the monks of Whalley Abbey and was originally called Oxheywoode, which formed part of a deer park.

I realy must get over there this month Sue. as a boy i spent many days walking and cycling in that area. some jam sandwiches and a bottle of water (Pop if I could aford it) and we'd walk to 'cock bridge and picnic by the river Calder. Great shot of the white 'blue' bells.
