Church of St. Michael, Ledbury

A church existed on the present site before 1066, although the current building dates from the 12th century. The art historian, Sir Nikolaus Pevsner, commented that that Ledbury was the 'premier parish church in Herefordshire'. The tower is separate from the main body of the church. It was completed around 1230 and the spire in 1733. The chapter house was built in 1330 and houses an iron-bound oak chest, the contents of which included parish records and items discovered after the Civil War Battle of Ledbury. The nave arcade is remarkable for a series of round port-hole windows, the last vestige of a 12th-century clerestory.
