a Picturesque Village in the county of Cumbria

About Broughton Mills

This is a glorious Lakeland destination at the foot of the Duddon Valley. It offers a panorama of superb views in all directions, and is certainly one of the most magnificent walking areas close to the western fringe of the Lake District National Park.

Black Combe peaks at a majestic 600 feet between Broughton Mills and the sandy shoreline running from Haverigg Point to Ravenglass where the River Esk meets with the sea. The picturesque Lickle Valley lies just above Broughton Mills, this appeals to walkers at all times of the year, but the valley is particularly beautiful when the landscape is clad in a riot of autumnal reds and gold.

Broughton Mills is within easy reach of Millom where there is a museum recalling the heritage and history of the region. It is an excellent area for fishing and birdwatching, at nearby Borwick Mills there is an interesting RSBP reserve.
