The Leoni Bridge

The Leoni Bridge

Anyone entering Carshlton High Street from the Sutton side will pass the two ponds which then flow out to the River Wandle and as the water flows from the ponds and into Grove Park on it's way to join the Wandle it flows under the Leoni Bridge shown here. It is known as the Leoni Bridge as it is thought it was designed by Giacome Leoni the Venitian architect called in to design a mansion for Carshalton Park although this never came to pass.

The Wandle

The Wandle

A quiet stretch of the River Wandle as it flows through the Grove Park in Carshalton. This was a rare moment as quarter of an hour previous we were on one of the seats having a bite of lunch and it was not easy with all the different flying machines on the lookout for any spare morsels.

AW NUTS !!! Got Sussed Again.

AW NUTS !!! Got Sussed Again.

I have not seen before so many squirrels and so tame in one place . Here in Grove Park these little characters were all over the place and quite a few seemed to have raided a peanut store. They did not seem phased at running along the pathways and running around people as they ran off with their prizes.

Grove Cascade

Grove Cascade

In the centre of Carshalton the River Wandle flows just off of the High Street, flowing through a couple of ponds the river then flows through Grove Park and if you can make your way through all the different bird's and squirrels it makes for a very nice stroll. At one point the river splits it route for a while and on this leg it falls over this cascade. Apart from the damp smell as the sun does not get to this point one can also see water rats ( well I think that was what we saw ) . There are many corners to this park and one could spend a lot more time than I had to explore more- another trip I think.
