Salisbury Cathedral is regarded as one of the leading examples of early English Gothic architecture. Its magnificent spire is the tallest church spire in the UK, a record it has held since 1561. The main body of the cathedral was built in 1220 and completed 38 years later in 1258. The spire was added in 1320, and is a staggering 404 feet tall (123 m).
