Smeaton's Tower on Plymouth Hoe in Devon John Smeaton's advanced design was required for this Tower to stand duty as a lighthouse on the notorious Eddystone Rock. It stood for about 120 years, until the rock itself was crumbling into the sea, then in honour of its designer, it was dismantled and rebuilt on Plymouth Hoe, where it stands proud today.
