The shell of the Church of St Thomas a Becket

The Church was abandoned after being badly damaged in a gale in 1847. The top of the tower of the Church that was built to replace it St Thomas the Apostle is just visible at the centre of the picture.

Heptonstall Churchyard

This Churchyard is shared by two Churches: St Thomas the Apostle and the ruins of the Church of St Thomas a Becket which was abandoned after it was badly damaged by a gale in 1847. The poet Sylvia Plath is buried in this Churchyard.
