Description

And Still The Water Rises

This shot was taken last Sunday and shows the bridge across the River Mole as it passes through Leatherhead at the bottom of Bridge Street. Seen here the water level is way higher than I am used to seeing it, however, I have seen news pics of this bridge today and the water level is up around the solid grey line on the bridge -a further few feet higher or so !! Very near to the bridge is Leatherhead's oldest pub " The Running Horse " where Queen Elizabeth 1st once stayed- because the River Mole was flooded and could not be crossed !! ( History repeats itself ). Trouble is this time the pub has itself been flooded with the cellar very much suffering. I can remember this spot being flooded in September 1968 in which the flooding then was even more serious And I could not get to Guildford tech College to start my new year there .
