Description

Crewkerne

A REMARKABLE piece of military history which had lain forgotten under a thicket of trees for decades has been uncovered in Crewkerne. . Several pillboxes were built along the A30 in 1940 to safeguard against the risk of a Nazi invasion in the South West. Their primary purpose was to repel any incursions by foreign troops advancing on London.

As you say, John, there are many similar structures but this one looks as good as new. Considering the speed at which they were built, they have been remarkably enduring.

Never seen a pill box like this. Our local ones are all rather squat structures.
