The famous contralto Dame Clara Butt lived in North Stoke until her death in 1936 and is buried in the Churchyard. She was the first President of the North Stoke Women's Institute. More recent residents have included Michael Caine and Ian Gillan, formerly of Deep Purple, who had a guitar-shaped swimming pool built in the grounds of his home, now the Springs Hotel.
