The gated entrance to Marsh Baldon

Most of the houses in the village are spread around the large village green and it is thought that the road throgh the village was at one time gated at both ends. Only one of these gates now remains. The parish church and the manor house are outside the gate and it is thought that the earliest settlement might have been around the church.
