Description

The Winnings, Welbeck

Almshouses for retired Estate workers, who had no families. They were built with money that the 5th Duke had won with some of his race horses, hence the name. The names of the winning horses are listed on the rectangular stone at the front of the building. I can only remember one : "Semolina". My good old Raleigh bike is also in the picture .

The character of the picture , as described by the comments , is due to the equipment : I used a pre-war Contax II with an uncoated pre-war Biogon 3,5cm f2.8 . The lens lacks the bite of modern coated lenses with their high saturation and contrast , but produces images of great charm .
