Description

Our Lady and St Peter Church , Bothamsall

The church dates from the 14th century and was rebuilt in 1845 by Henry Pelham-Clinton, 4th Duke of Newcastle . Bothamsall in Saxon times was of some importance in the area owing to its geographical position and to the existence of a king’s manor – one of three in Bassetlaw. Near Bothamsall the Rivers Meden and Maun join to form the River Idle. Here in Saxon times was the “Coningswath” or King’s ford. Similarly a mile to the north of the church is Crookford another crossing place.
