Lower Upnor - Arethusa figurehead

This fighurehead comes from HMS Arethusa, the last British Naval ship to go into battle under sail (Crimean War 1854) and was given to Shaftsbury Homes and Arethusa in the 1930’s. Arethusa was the name of a series of three training ships based in Kent from 1867, firstly at Greenhithe on the River Thames and later at Upnor 1932-1974.
