Description

Time For Tea.

This is Tregothnan House, and the estate has been home to the Boscawen family for centuries,in 1335 John de Boscawen Ros of St.Buryan married heiress Johan de Tregothnan and moved from Penzance to Tregothnan. The original house was ransacked in the Civil War and the house that stands today dates from 1652 and added to over the years. Many of the Boscawens have been very prominent over the years, they have been Earls,Vicounts, members of Parliament and Admirals in the Navy. Hey, they even have a road in the centre of Truro named after them. The gardens were the first in Britain to see Camellias grow outside around 200 years ago. BUT, today Tregothnan is now famous for being a major tea plantation here in Britain ( I say Britain and not England as Cornwall is not in England- but that is another story ). There is tea in the true sense of the word and many herbal infusions available. The first tea I think was grown in early 2000s and today is now a thriving business. Tregothnan is Cornish for "House At The Head Of The Valley"

Great picture Vince. I've never heard of this place. It's going on the list of places to visit in September. Interesting history, thanks.
