Trooper Potts was the only soldier from Reading to be awarded the Victoria Cross. The close up here is part of a memorial to Trooper Potts, his comrade Arthur Andrews and the men of the Berkshire Yeomanry

Really superb photography Edward, and a fine tribute to the man. Interesting to read that Lt William Niven - father of the actor David Niven - lost his life in the same advance in Gallipoli 1915. Brave men indeed.

Very nice rendition Edward. A bit "soft" but that is purely subjective.

Thank you for the comment, Rod. The image looks soft because of the very shallow depth of field resulting from shooting at f/1.8. This was intentional and only the subject's eyes are actually in focus. I would probably adopt the same technique when photographing a live model.

Thanks Edward. The nearest eye is a great portrait rule. I understand your reasons for exposing your shot like a human portrait.
