Stephen(23rd August 2022)A very good composition. I would have cloned the distracting telephone cable.
Stephen(11th September 2020)Thanks for the explanation Paul and thanks for the input from Edward.
Stephen(10th September 2020)Paul I prefer this natural look to your other photos of the church's exterior. I'm not sure what you do them, and to many of your photos, maybe it is HDR
| Stephen(4th August 2020)And what it looks like in real life.
https://www.nicholaswarns.com/our-case-studies/church-of-st-nicholas/ |
Stephen(25th July 2020)Some excellent indoor shots Bob.
Stephen(25th July 2020)The foreground distracts from the building. I cropped the shadows and it looks much better.
Stephen(25th July 2020)The lamp post spoils the view. A crop is needed, and so it doesn't look lopsided a similar crop at the other end would be in order. I tried it in paint shop and it works well.
| Stephen(12th November 2019)
Looks much better with the adjustments I suggested. The natural colours are very nice, is good you didn't saturate it in photo shop |
Stephen(24th August 2019)Thanks Edward. I had a go with the perspective and rotated it a bit to the left.
Stephen(23rd August 2019)Very well taken.
Stephen(23rd August 2019)Super photo. The thumbnail really stood out which made me want to see the larger version.
Stephen(23rd April 2019)Rather too much correction on the verticals.
Stephen(15th March 2018)Stunning shot. I see you've also uploaded it to Google Earth. A rare 5 stars from me !
Stephen(29th December 2017)Lovely photo, spot on with the verticals.
Stephen(9th September 2017)This really stood out in the thumbnails. Surprised there were no comments.
Stephen(11th July 2017)Excellent photos of that justly famous church.
Stephen(24th June 2017)Thanks Ted, yes I saw the Lego Cathedral and Gyles Brandreth turned up as well,
Stephen(13th July 2016)Excellent photo, lots of interest.
Stephen(3rd October 2015)A very nice shot with lots of interest.
Stephen(3rd October 2015)Well done with your first Kingfisher. " Need a Bigger Lens" Or a FZ 200 !
Stephen(3rd October 2015)Excellent shot.
Stephen(3rd October 2015)Great job with the focussing and blurred background..
Stephen(7th September 2015)Excellent, well done.
Stephen(29th August 2015)A well chosen viewpoint.
Stephen(14th August 2015)The first bat I've seen on POE. An excellent capture Rod.
Stephen(14th August 2015)Would never have guessed it was taken at 30x, 720mm. Not easy to hand hold at that length of zoom. Especially as the camera is quite small.
Stephen(29th July 2015)Very good composition.
Stephen(8th July 2015)Very well done.
Stephen(29th June 2015)An excellent viewpoint Vince. The three stones are nicely spaced and the middle one is framed by those in the background and the cross is offset very well. The tree is super, Sorry I'm on my cropping horse again. I would suggest cropping the stone and tree from the left and cloning the base of the stone on the far right.
Stephen(25th June 2015)The tree in the graveyard from the David Lean film of Great Expectations.
Stephen(15th June 2015)Seconded.
Stephen(8th June 2015)A very good close up.
Stephen(26th May 2015)Very good.
Stephen(15th May 2015)Super colours. The stone buildings are a good contrast.
Stephen(15th May 2015)A lovely scene.
Stephen(15th May 2015)A well chosen vantage point. The red boat brings more colour.
Stephen(15th May 2015)He gets around. He was in Trafalgar square on the 22nd of March.
Stephen(10th May 2015)Excellent light and colour.
Stephen(8th May 2015)I can imagine Pip from Great Expectations running around the corner.
Stephen(5th May 2015)Very well done.
Stephen(29th April 2015)Don't think it matters the edges of the feathers are missing. it works very well as it is.
Stephen(29th April 2015)Good photos of some nice churches Ken. A pity the day was so dull.
Stephen(29th April 2015)You're welcome Dave. To me the poles were shouting out to be cloned.
Stephen(29th April 2015)Great subject Dave. The house is a good contrast as is the snow. I wonder though, how about cloning the three posts and the aerial? My eye keeps being drawn to the brown one right in the middle. I cloned them in paint shop and I reckon doing that improves the photo. Just my humble opinion of course.
Stephen(26th April 2015)A very interesting angle which works very well, especially of course with the blurred background.
Stephen(26th April 2015)You take some very good photos Victor, but, and I know this is a matter of taste I think at times you go overboard with HDR
Stephen(20th April 2015)Great colours.
Stephen(20th April 2015)Good angle John.
Stephen(20th April 2015)A good crisp image.
Stephen(4th April 2015)At first I wondered how you put a colourful boat into a monochrome scene. It stands out so much that it almost looks photoshopped.
Stephen(22nd December 2014)Good one John. I have played there. A very nice ground.
Stephen(22nd December 2014)Very well done Ken, but could I suggest you clone the left post. My eye keeps being drawn to it. I have just cloned it in paint shop and it works very well. I know all too well about there not being enough space.
Stephen(20th October 2014)Thanks Dave, ah the mysteries of RAW.
Stephen(20th October 2014)I agree with the others. The thumbnail certainly caught my eye. I never think of doing sepia. Was this done at the time or afterwards Dave?
Stephen(20th October 2014)In the right place at the right time. Super clouds.
Stephen(20th October 2014)Verticals spot on. Super colours.
Stephen(28th September 2014)Nice shot John.
Stephen(28th September 2014)The famous view well captured.
Stephen(29th July 2014)Super sky.
| Stephen(19th May 2014)A quirky object. I found a video of the church on youtube and this is one of the comments. "It is a collection box for money - not as old as it looks - mid 20c! John Vigar, Development Manager, The Churches Conservation Trust, owners of the building"
I thought it looked older. |
Stephen(19th April 2014)Nice set of Warwick Jenny.
Stephen(7th April 2014)Very good Pat, but I would crop the house on the far right.
Stephen(7th April 2014)I agree with Edward and David. I would clone the pipe out and clone the ridge of the roof so it is the same colour as the rest of the roof, and maybe clone the path to make it appear as if the grass goes all the way to the border.
Stephen(7th April 2014)Amazing stonework.
Stephen(7th April 2014)I think it works well. Reminds me of blotting paper, or a Jackson Pollock.
Stephen(27th March 2014)Spot on verticals. With that tower it could be a mini Winchester Cathedral, but this tower looks much more in proportion than the tower of the Cathedral. Didn't know it was so close to Winchester. Wish I had known when I went to Winchester in 2009
Stephen(25th March 2014)Impressive three photos of Lichfield John.
Stephen(18th March 2014)Well spotted Rod.
Stephen(13th March 2014)Lovely and clear. I would have cropped the tree on the right and the blue door and steps.
Stephen(25th February 2014)I sometimes have the same problem. My left leg is shorter than my right. (joke) It can be corrected in paint shop. 2 degrees to the right is all that is needed
Stephen(9th November 2013)Lovely soft colours.
Stephen(9th November 2013)Good one Vince.
Stephen(9th November 2013)Well spotted Victor.
Stephen(9th November 2013)Nice set of Kew Jenny.
Stephen(9th November 2013)The moon caught my eye in the thumbnail and the blue sky really makes the photo.
Stephen(26th September 2013)Yes a very nice set. Tide was out when I went there earlier this year.
Stephen(20th September 2013)I expected to see lots of comments for this very unusual shot. Agreed, what a face.
Stephen(20th September 2013)A tricky subject. Very well done to get it as clear as this.
Stephen(7th September 2013)Very well exposed shot.
Stephen(7th September 2013)This really stood out amongst the thumbnails.
Stephen(7th September 2013)Grossly overblown use of HDR of what could have been an interesting scene.
Stephen(7th September 2013)Very nice set.
Stephen(26th August 2013)Lovely setting for a church.
Stephen(26th August 2013)Spot on.
Stephen(26th August 2013)Super one Mike.
Stephen(19th August 2013)Very good set of Sherborne old castle Mike.
Stephen(8th August 2013)Right place at the right time.
Stephen(8th August 2013)Excellent panorama.
Stephen(8th August 2013)Normally I don't like power lines in photos, but these and the light on the posts really add to the shot.
Stephen(8th August 2013)Three of "The Great Gathering"
Stephen(8th August 2013)Nice set Jenny.
Stephen(8th August 2013)Nice set Mike.
Stephen(8th August 2013)Twoo are you looking at.
Stephen(8th August 2013)Surprised this had no comments. It stood out for me in the thumbnails. Very good set of Barmouth.
Stephen(31st July 2013)And the duck right on cue in line with the bow of the boat.
Stephen(31st July 2013)Lovely bright set of photos.
Stephen(31st July 2013)Sun in the right position Ken. Pity about that car being there. It isn't yours is it?
Stephen(31st July 2013)Nice one Ian. So much better than the HRD photos. I would have had a go at cloning the aerial in paint shop.
Stephen(31st July 2013)This one stood out amongst the thumbnails.
Stephen(31st July 2013)Agree with the others.
Stephen(31st July 2013)Yes it does add to the shot Martin.
Stephen(27th July 2013)Very good framing but I would have cropped the opening at the top which is a bit distracting.
Stephen(26th July 2013)Another lovely shot.
Stephen(26th July 2013)A charming church. I just found it on Google street view.
Stephen(26th July 2013)Another good one Jez. I did a quick search and there are about 185 churches with round towers in England. 124 are in Norfolk.
Stephen(26th July 2013)Excellent composition, very nicely lit.
Stephen(26th July 2013)Taken at just the right time for the light. Very clear shot.
Stephen(26th July 2013)Amazing colours.
Stephen(26th July 2013)Some great butterfly shots. Well done Mike.
Stephen(26th July 2013)A simple but very effective shot.
Stephen(26th July 2013)Lovely shot.
Stephen(26th July 2013)Excellent photos of Wast Water
Stephen(4th July 2013)Nice set of Boscastle Ruth.
Stephen(25th June 2013)Agreed, very good shot. Pity about the twigs in the water
Stephen(25th June 2013)Very unusual church.
Stephen(24th June 2013)Mark, I may have seen them but didn't know they were made by the crusaders. I have just seen a photo of them. Wish I had known abut them.
Stephen(20th June 2013)Excellent shot Mark.
Stephen(7th June 2013)The bridge does fit in very well with the landscape.
Stephen(7th June 2013)Right place at the right time
Stephen(7th June 2013)The blue sky adds a lot to the photo
Stephen(2nd June 2013)Love the cloud line which takes your eye to the centre of the photo.
Stephen(2nd June 2013)Yes we did Pat.
Stephen(13th May 2013)This is Wroxeter Roman City.
Stephen(9th May 2013)Excellent shot.
Stephen(17th April 2013)Brilliant. I have been to Lincoln twice. Wish I had found this viewpoint. I went straight to Steep Hill from the railway station.
Stephen(16th April 2013)Lovely shot. Well thought out.
Stephen(16th April 2013)Excellent.
Stephen(16th April 2013)Very striking.
Stephen(16th April 2013)Great contrast of sun and shadows.
| Stephen(4th April 2013)Thank you Mark.
It was St. Stephen's Tower when I took the photo, but the great majority call it Big Ben. Yes I know it is wrong, but I wonder what would happen if we did a search for St Stephen's Tower in POE? |
Stephen(3rd April 2013)Makes all the difference having the older gentleman in the photo.
Stephen(3rd April 2013)Excellent photos of Hever.
Stephen(3rd April 2013)Surprised this photo has no comments. The thumbnail certainly caught my eye. Great movement.
Stephen(3rd April 2013)A very interesting shot, and doesn't the building look clean.
Stephen(3rd April 2013)I like the use of Infrared. Very different. They have come out well and unlike HDR they do not look so unnatural.
Stephen(3rd April 2013)I wouldn't have known this was HRD but this is good use of the process. Sorry to say but the other photos in your series of Rotherham are overdone so much that they look awful. And it is photos, not photo's.
Stephen(17th February 2013)Telegraph poles, wires, aerials, lamp posts, road signs and cars appear to be your speciality Rod.
Stephen(17th February 2013)Yes a nice set of night pics.
Stephen(17th February 2013)Nice view point, pity about the lamps, maybe they could be cloned in paint shop
Stephen(17th February 2013)Doesn't look right being in kilometres.
Stephen(17th February 2013)A nice series, pity the day was so dull.
Stephen(17th February 2013)I like the way the cross has caught the light.
Stephen(23rd January 2013)This one really stood out amongst the thumbnails.
Stephen(12th January 2013)Thanks Edward and John. I did ask for (and received) a modest fee. I have had a couple of photos published in magazines run by enthusiastic amateurs( Follies & The London Society's Journal) and I let them have the photos for a credit and a copy of the magazine. My credit in this book will be "Stephen, Pictures of England"
Stephen(20th November 2012)Would be interesting to see the image as it was taken, but HDR rules
Stephen(20th November 2012)The thumbnail (which looks almost like a painting) really caught my eye and I had to look at the larger version. Ah I see you now have the FZ48.
Stephen(20th November 2012)Agree with Dave, very good
Stephen(28th September 2012)Excellent.
Stephen(28th September 2012)Yes this is the best one.
Stephen(28th September 2012)Nice set of photos Graham.
Stephen(18th September 2012)Vince here is another star to bring mine up to five which I should have given in the first place.
Stephen(17th September 2012)Well done Vince. In the right place at the right time. Very effective photo.
Stephen(12th September 2012)Nice to see another view of the great building Ray
Stephen(9th September 2012)Excellent.
Stephen(29th August 2012)Another good one Patrick.
Stephen(29th August 2012)Lovely shot.
| Stephen(29th August 2012)it made me look twice.
Same with me. |
Stephen(20th July 2012)Yes very clear with lots of interest.
Stephen(12th June 2012)A calendar shot for sure.
Stephen(12th June 2012)Don't worry about the wing John. Great to see it from the air.
Stephen(9th June 2012)Very well done.
Stephen(21st April 2012)This one stands out amongst the crowd.
Stephen(23rd March 2012)Outstanding
Stephen(23rd March 2012)A shame the old towers have gone. Whenever we went to play cricket in that area the first views of the towers was always a welcome sight.
Stephen(7th March 2012)Was surprised to see this photo has no comments, it really stood out for me.
Stephen(29th December 2011)Nice idea Pat. I think it would be better if you cropped both edges right up to the tree.
| Stephen(12th December 2011)Works well Ian.
I would have used the clone tool in paint shop to remove the "toadstool" at the bottom. |
Stephen(5th December 2011)Two excellent shots. I prefer this one because the lighthouse is larger and the photo is portrait shape.
Stephen(5th December 2011)Striking shot Patrick
Stephen(7th November 2011)Very nice series Graham.
| Stephen(7th November 2011)Am trying to think of some adjectives to describe this shot........................................A rare 5 stars from me.
|
Stephen(7th November 2011)That is some tower. Did you line the gravestone up with the corner of the tower? After the chunkiness of the tower that was the second thing I noticed.
| Stephen(4th November 2011)You captured the atmosphere of the great day very well in this series Zanna, and well done for getting this photo between the two "plods"
|
Stephen(31st October 2011)One for the Countryfile calendar.
Stephen(26th October 2011)This one caught my eye, looks as if the stones are almost like people on the move.
Stephen(26th October 2011)Excellent series of Leeds Castle Andrew
Stephen(19th October 2011)In the right place at the right time, excellent photo.
Stephen(13th October 2011)Looks a very interesting church Andrew
Stephen(7th October 2011)Super colours.
Stephen(7th October 2011)These interesting skies seem to be following you around Mick.
Stephen(3rd October 2011)Calendar material.
Stephen(21st September 2011)Great colours
Stephen(18th September 2011)A winner Mick
Stephen(6th September 2011)Spot on shot of a superb building.
| Stephen(6th September 2011)How could that eyesore which is blocking the view ever have been allowed planning permission?
|
Stephen(11th August 2011)Great shot Mick.
Stephen(7th August 2011)Agree with all of the above, well done Patrick.
Stephen(23rd June 2011)Lovely light.
Stephen(6th May 2011)A peaceful scene well taken.
Stephen(6th May 2011)A very nice series of photos Andrew.
Stephen(6th May 2011)My eye is drawn to the thing on the right, would be far more effective if this was cropped.
Stephen(23rd April 2011)This one has a hypnotic effect, almost as if it is just a flying face
| Stephen(19th April 2011) I wrote the comment above. I thought I was logged in but I wasn't. Was surprised it let me send.
|
Stephen(29th March 2011)I agree with James. The thumbnail on your home page looks much tighter and I would say it is better and thank goodness you didn't HRD the photo, or maybe you didn't have it then.
Stephen(26th March 2011)Good selection of photos of the church Colin.
Stephen(18th March 2011)I think it would be much improved if the people were cropped, then your eye would be drawn towards the bridge rather than them.
Stephen(15th March 2011)Nice to see the reverse view, is it from the Minster?
| Stephen(11th March 2011)I like this image Mick, but my eyes kept being drawn towards those twigs, so I cropped just under them and I think it turns a very nice photo into an excellent one.
|
Stephen(25th February 2011)And a great view as well.
Stephen(19th February 2011)Yes a lovely assortment of colours. Lots of interest.
| Stephen(19th February 2011)Nice one Mick, how about cropping midway between the shadow on the left and the foliage at the bottom?
|
| Stephen(23rd January 2011)Strange how the two windows of the right aren't level with the others and the stone coursing goes right through the middle of one of them. Number 135 looks as if it may have been rebuilt above the stone coursing because the bricks are different, bomb damage probably, but it still looks a fine Georgian building.
|
| Stephen(22nd January 2011)Thanks for your explanation on how you acheived this photo Patrick, it certainly is effective.
|
Stephen(9th January 2011)Super view.
Stephen(9th January 2011)One of the best views I have seen of Castle Howard.
Stephen(9th January 2011)A well thought out pano.
Stephen(23rd December 2010)The snow in your photos is nice and white Thomas.
Stephen(12th December 2010)Lovely set of photos of the Cathedral John.
Stephen(12th December 2010)A photo fit for a calendar.
Stephen(19th November 2010)Another good one
Stephen(19th November 2010)Great light and colours.
Stephen(18th November 2010)Good night shot.
Stephen(15th November 2010)You can feel the cold.
Stephen(15th November 2010)Lovley autumn colours.
| Stephen(28th October 2010)A shot fit for a calendar.
I play cricket and have played on some sloping gounds, but nothing like this one. |
Stephen(23rd September 2010)I thought the one with the sun behind the dead tree was good but this beats it. Very well done
Stephen(23rd September 2010)Lovely.
Stephen(11th September 2010)Nice to see the natural colours of an early morning with no using of HDR and all that rubbish.
Stephen(11th September 2010)Very well done Mike.
Stephen(4th September 2010)A lovely promenade
Stephen(4th September 2010)Well captured Robert.
| Stephen(14th August 2010)Nice set of photos of the abbey Chris.
|
Stephen(12th August 2010)Very good photo of a super cathedral.
Stephen(12th August 2010)That's a great tree Vince
Stephen(10th August 2010)Agreed, and it's good to see the Abbey from a different angle.
Stephen(23rd July 2010)Imagine what would happen if we were to park in that dangerous way.
Stephen(23rd July 2010)Tremendous.
Stephen(23rd July 2010)I never knew Great Yarmouth had such a well preserved city wall, never knew it had a city wall at all. You've captured it very well in your photos Peggy.
Stephen(6th July 2010)Good set of photos of the abbey Roy.
Stephen(6th July 2010)That's amazing
Stephen(28th May 2010)I see I'm not the only one who's eye was caught by this lovely scene.
Stephen(11th May 2010)The tower is very similar to the Saxon one at Sompting church in Sussex which I visited last October.
Stephen(11th May 2010)Monarch of all he surveys.
Stephen(11th May 2010)Caught the different shades of brown very well there Graham
Stephen(11th May 2010)Thanks for the explanation Peggy. It does seem to be rather spartan.
Stephen(11th May 2010)Mark I like your photos of Lincoln and I see you were as lucky as I was with the weather on my last visit to Lincoln in April 2007, and we seem to have captured some very similar shots.
| Stephen(21st April 2010)It can go with my photo of cockshut road in Lewes !
Is this a wind up though? It doesn't appear on AA route finder and Google hasn't heard about it either. |
Stephen(21st April 2010)I like the way you have the fountain on the edge of the building.
Stephen(21st April 2010)That's an old photo, but it's the wrong way around. The gate should be on the left.
Stephen(12th April 2010)Very nice church Peggy.
Stephen(12th April 2010)Focus is spot on.
Stephen(12th April 2010)That's a great view Andrew.
Stephen(6th April 2010)Great building very well captured.
Stephen(6th April 2010)That's an interesting view Ruth. All the different bricks and stonework are shown very well. I bet a fair numbers of repairs have been made.
Stephen(30th March 2010)Yes very good indeed. I didn't know what it was until I saw the description. It looked as if there was a hole in the middle, but then my eyes got used to it and saw they were leaves.
Stephen(25th March 2010)Great view.
Stephen(25th March 2010)I've never seen this shot of the Minster, very well done. I see the Catholic church tower has got in there again. That's the one which always seems to get in the view from the city wall near the station.
Stephen(25th March 2010)An unusual view of the city wall.
Stephen(25th March 2010)Looks to be a very tranquil place.
Stephen(15th March 2010)Pausing to take a nice photo on the way up to the Observatorty.
Stephen(14th March 2010)The classic shot on the way to the city centre from the railway station.
Stephen(7th March 2010)Nice set Urmi.
Stephen(7th March 2010)A rather unusual bridge. Thanks for the information on the plaque
Stephen(28th February 2010)Excellent Sue. Looks like a bird in there. At first I thought it was a defect on my screen.
Stephen(28th February 2010)Super !
Stephen(28th February 2010)I took one from exactly the same place Ruth. Your one is better.
Stephen(28th February 2010)Nice shots of the abbey Samantha.
Stephen(18th February 2010)Very good. Much better than I managed ! Think you must have a wider angle lens.
Stephen(18th February 2010)Yes very good, not the usual view either.
Stephen(18th February 2010)Great. Almost a mirror image.
Stephen(18th February 2010)Well done John I always envy those who can paint. I have to make do with a camera.
Stephen(18th February 2010)Super.
Stephen(18th February 2010)It is an excellent photo without the man, with him it is even better.
Stephen(18th February 2010)Good series of photos of the Abbey Ruth.
Stephen(18th February 2010)And another shot with good atmosphere. Nice to see no processing used !
Stephen(18th February 2010)very nice.
| Stephen(25th January 2010)"I got wet feet!"
It was worth it Gary. |
Stephen(25th January 2010)Yes very nice.
Stephen(22nd January 2010)That's a lovely church Tim.
| Stephen(22nd January 2010)
It's taken me 50 pages of photos to get to this, but it's worth it because this is a gem.

Stephen(28th February 2009)Ditto x 11 !
Stephen(28th February 2009)Well framed shot Paul. Those Victorians. They see the beautiful Georgian windows with their glazing bars and replace them, thus spoiling the balance of the house.
Stephen(28th February 2009)Good shot Paul. Wouldn't like to pay for the heating either !
Stephen(28th February 2009)Very nice shot Glen. Pity it isn't larger.

Stephen(23rd February 2009)Very atmospheric
Stephen(23rd February 2009)That's a great shot. What a super angle. All the turrets and towers than can be have been pikced out against the sky. Pity about the electric lines etc but thety could be cloned in paint shop.

Stephen(12th December 2008)I saw this the other day and thought well the site is called Pictures of England, but thought it was only for photos. I didn't realise you painted this Stanley. I am only able to "paint" with my camera and have great respect and a bit of envy for those who are able to paint properly.

Stephen(19th November 2008)An unusual shot of the wall. I know that place well but have never "seen" this shot.
Stephen(19th November 2008)A well thought out shot Louis. Would be even better rotated three degrees to the left. My shots sometimes need adjusting as well. My brother says my right leg must be shorter than my left !
Stephen(19th November 2008)Nice photo Luis
Stephen(19th November 2008)Nice one Lyn. Must say I prefer your photos when you don't mess about with them too much in paint shop or whatever you have. Some of your others are to my mind saturated in colour and contrast and don't lool natural.
