About Newtimber Place

Newtimber Place is a Sussex moated house, build of flint and brick with a roof of Horsham stone. The original house was probably built by Richard Bellingham's son, who was Sheriff of Sussex in 1567.

A special feature of the house is the 18th Century Etruscan style wall paintings in the hall, and the moat which is fed by natural springs and is 50 foot wide in places.

There is also a Georgian dovecote in the grounds.

Visits to the house are by guided tour only, These last approximately half an hour, and include the hall, dining room, drawing room and library.
