About Ramsbottom
The fact that Ramsbottom is located close to a tract of magnificent open countryside has made it a desirable dwelling place for professionals working in the larger towns of Bolton, Bury, Rochdale and Blackburn. Formerly, it was a well known mill town and relics of its industrial heritage remain. Most of the former mills have long gone, but a paper mill is still in operation.
The countryside surrounding the town offers lakes, woods and hills, with distant Winter Hill rising to a height of 456 feet. Thus, it is ideal for water pursuits, walking, climbing, observing nature and bird watching. You will also find several bridle ways for horse riding. Visitors to the town can enjoy a pleasure trip on the East Lancashire Heritage Line which operates between Ramsbottom and Bury, taking in parts of the town before reaching lovely open countryside.
There is a wide diversity of architecture in the region, converted Victorian mills, churches, old inns, barns and pleasant farmhouses, all of these sit comfortably alongside the new luxurious houses built in recent times.
Ramsbottom has a number of choice shops and trendy boutiques. It also has up-market cafe's and restaurants, whist the local deli's supply all your needs for a delicious "easy to prepare" meal at home. The stylish bars cater mainly for the young, but these usually have a good menu, fine wines and beers.
