About Godrevy Lighthouse
Standing imperiously in its island position the splendid white building of Godrevy Lighthouse presents a startling picture against a racing turbulent sea and savage rocks set beneath a thunderous sky. The scene is no less dramatic when the sky turns to blue, for all who look at Godrevy are reminded of the numerous lives claimed by the island and its neighbouring rocks before Godrevy was built in 1859. Victims include a ship that went down in 1649, this was laden with King Charles I's wardrobe and many of his personal possessions.
Interestingly, it is thought that Godrevy Lighthouse was the backdrop to Virginia Wolf's novel "To the Lighthouse" it seems the author knew this part of the Cornish coast well.
The wild rugged coastline is home to a vast number of birds and seals can be spotted at most times of the year. It is a fascinating spot were visitors are able to enjoy peaceful coastal paths and stunning sea views.
