Pictures of Berkshire![]() Submitted by Allan Rostron(4th March 2009)The Beetle and Wedge hotel The hotel is on the banks of the Thames at Moulsford in Berkshire. I took the picture from the Oxfordshire side of the river, where I lived. This stretch of the river was the setting for Jerome K. Jerome's tale "Three men in a boat". The hotel's name derives from the hammer (beetle) and wedge used to split wood. Comment by Barbara Shoemaker(4th March 2009)Oh, to be taking tea on the terrace! Lovely. Comment by Sue Bristo(4th March 2009)Lovely pic Allan ... great reflections and what a great place to stay. Comment by Ruth Gregory(5th March 2009)Yes, it's great! Thanks for the background info too. Comment by Julie Lee(22nd September 2009)Intriguing name for a hotel and great description, 'Three Men in a Boat' is a good read. On the same theme 'Boogie on up the River' (Wallington?) is the often hilarious tale of one man who journeys up the Thames with his dog. Me. I just love the 'Tales by the Riverbank' sort of place, so your picture appeals from it's promise of a secret place further along the bank Add a comment...Please login to make a comment on this picture © 2001-2009 Pictures of England.com - All rights reserved - Terms & Conditions - Free Pictures |
