Wow!!! Comment by Steve Preston(29th August 2009)On the yellow sand of Embleton Bay near the sand dunes is a large grey rock called 'Bathing Rock'. A little to the northwest of this is the famous 'Vanishing Rock' on which the name 'Andra Barton' is carved. Barton was a Scottish pirate, killed in a sea battle with the English in 1511. Comment by Julie Lee(10th October 2009)Interesting, your comment about 'Vanishing Rock'. Folkore is a big draw in tourism, eg Cornish pirates, smugglers etc. I became interested in Northumberland via interest in Vikings, though I've yet to visit, and historical stuff I read with an Open University course. Ambivalent picture, charming child beach scene, ominous clouds, shooting in B+W heightens the effect. Unusual Comment by Roy Davis(29th November 2009)Great shot Steve, how good it is to walk Gods good earth Add a comment...Please login to make a comment on this picture © 2001-2009 Pictures of England.com - All rights reserved Terms & Conditions - Free Pictures Please support this site |
