About Box Hill
Box Hill lies in an area of exceptional beauty, it covers beautiful woodland and an outstanding area of chalk downland. It provides a rare place of solitude for those wishing to escape the bustling life of London, if only for a few hours.
The area makes a lovely day out for all age groups and is of particular attraction to nature lovers. It offers peaceful woodland walks, delicious in springtime for new buds bursting forth, later in autumn the woods, which mainly feature beeches and oaks, are special for their glowing autumnal colours.
Nature Trails take you along walks where in June and July you can see delicate wild flowers, including over a dozen wild orchid species. And at the summit of Box Hill, overlooking amazing countryside, there is a lively information centre, a shop and a cafe. There is also a fort from the 1890's, this is not open to public view, but has an interesting exterior.
Box Hill is in the care of the National Trust who arrange a varied programme of events, these range from children's activities to Christmas shopping, it is the ideal place for finding something a little bit special for Christmas that you cannot find on the High Street.
On a marvellous open landscape, Box Hill is the perfect place to enjoy a lovely family day out at any time of year.
