About Cannon Hall Country Park
Outstanding country park originally landscaped in the 1760's by Richard Woods. The park surrounds a magnificent hall designed by John Carr of York which was completed at around the same time the 70 acre parkland, built as a home for the Spencer-Stanhope family.
Apart from being a wonderful place to relax the park offers much of interest. In one of the greenhouses there is a two hundred year old vine brought back from the Continent in 1802 by John Spencer-Stanhope. The gardens are also interesting for their pear trees which were first grown here early in the eighteenth century, and for the historic walled garden adjacent to the house.
The house is now a museum, it holds a stunning collection of Old Master paintings, fine furniture, beautiful glassware, pottery and other superb artefacts. These are all displayed in authentic room settings, such as the Victorian Parlour which is evocative of that great era.
Cannon Hall is also the home of the museum dedicated to the 13th/18th Hussars (Queen Mary's Own), this offers a rich experience for anyone with an interest in military history. The regiment played a part in the famous "Charge of the Light Brigade" this is illustrated by a display in the museum as well as memorabilia of Lord Baden Powell.
Visitors of all ages will enjoy the experience of Cannon Hall Country Park, after you have wandered the grounds there is a pleasant tea room in what was once the old kitchens and servants quarters, and there is an on-site shop for the purchase of souvenirs.
Cannon Hall in its romantic parkland setting is a popular wedding venue, it also offers exciting seasonal events throughout the year.
