History of Deene ParkBy Steve WillimottThe Deene Park estate has belonged to the Brudenell family since 1514, when it was acquired by Sir Robert Brudenell. It was the seat of the Earls of Cardigan, the most notable of which was the 7th. Earl, who led the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaklava in 1854. The large house is built round a spacious courtyard, and though much of what is seen today was developed by the Brudenells, there are visible remains of the original medieval manor. The park contains a lake and gardens, where visitors may picnic before exploring the house Take a picture tour of Deene ParkHistory of Deene Park, by Steve Willimott© 2001-2008 Pictures of England.com - All rights reserved - Terms & Conditions - Free Pictures |
