King Henry's Joust

an event at Scarborough Castle

King Henry's Joust

About King Henry's Joust

Witness majesty, pomp and pageantry as King Henry VIII visits Scarborough Castle for a royal tournament of chivalry, bravery, courage and skill.

For the first time on English soil in almost 500 years, two Tudor knights will clash in a full contact solid-wood lance joust.
Feel the excitement build as the knights lower their lances and charge towards their opponent, picking up momentum until they meet in a clash of shields and armour.

The tournaments will be accompanied by courtly music, and also feature high status Tudor falconry, with aerial displays of birds of prey in flight and superb falconry on horseback.

A cast of costumed squires, horses and knights, musicians and men of the court will help recreate this Tudor spectacle which is set to be a highlight of the 2008 English Heritage’s event programme and paves the way for the 500th anniversary of King Henry VIII’s coronation in 2009.
Please always contact the event organiser before travelling in case of late changes. See Booking Info above.
