Description

Mystery warbler

I've an idea this is a Bonellis' warbler, I could do with confirmation though. Or is it a sedge warbler?

Andy. It looks very simular to a Savi's Warbler, page 303 RSPB of Birds of England and Europe book, 2006 edition. Nice picture well done.

I beg to differ with you Roy. I know I know what this bird is, but I can't bring it to mind. Give me a while and I will get it.

Thanks Roy, thanks Sue. Are you thinking it's a whitethroat?

I don't see any white throat myself, it looks reddish. Was it white? I see a greyish or brownish head, extending below the eye and a reddish throat, lighter flanks and white belly and lighter rump. Will take this to the Birds you've seen post now.

This is exactly why it's a mystery to me. It's a warbler for sure, but going by tail shape it can only be one of a few. It's the bib colour that's throwing me, I can't work it out!

Do you think it could be a Bluethroat?

I've now tracked this down and can tell you that this is a Chiffchaff.
