About Meopham Green
This is an attractive Kentish village lying to the south of Gravesend. It is picked out by its Windmill of 1801, which has been lovingly restored back to its original working order and is now one of the best preserved in Kent.
The village is often called the "longest village in Kent" doubtless this is due to its linear shape which stretches along the A227 road. However, despite the noise from the road Meopham still manages to retain a semi-rural atmosphere.
Visitors will find all the usual village commodities including a shop with freshly baked bread, two churches and an ancient village green where the game of cricket has been played since the 18th century, making it one of the oldest cricket venue's in the country.
For relaxation there is a village leisure centre and several village inns. One is appropriately called "The Cricketer's", this can be found at the side of the village green, whilst the others are dotted around the village, but remain within easy walking distance of each other.
Meopham Green is in an area rich in history with many attractive places to visit. It is up on the North Downs, with the Thames estuary just a short distance away, it is also within easy reach of Brands Hatch racing circuit, Lullingstone House and Biggin Hill.
