Highland InnBoscobel Road, St Leonards-On-Sea, East Sussex, England
About Highland InnThe Highlands Inn lies in Boscobel Road, on the Western fringe of Burton's St. Leonards. Within easy reach of the seafront, and the various entertainments of the famous resorts of Hastings and St. Leonards. During the latter part of the 18th century, a celebrated London architect- builder realised the need for a seaside watering place, specially designed to deal with the health and pleasure of the fashionable world. His name was James Burton and he had planned and developed large parts of London, including the Regents Park area. The site he selected for the new town was a few miles to the West of Hastings and included a little valley which ran down to the then deserted sea shore and flat land at the foot of the cliffs. The new and unique resort of St.Leonards was born. The Highlands Inn is a wonderfully imposing building constructed over 150 years ago from local quarried stone. Originally, it is believed, the Highlands was a Summer residence for Queen Victoria who was a regular visitor to the new town of St.Leonards-on-Sea. The stables, now apartments and garages, still remain at the rear of the Highlands. The Highlands offers well appointed comfortable rooms, with complimentary beverage maker, colour television and en-suite bathroom with shower. The Highlands even boasts a honeymoon suite complete with a romantic four-poster bed. The Highlands is renowned for its full hearty English breakfast and the popular well-stocked bar with a wide selection of wines, spirits and real ales. Other nearby hotels
