About Umberleigh
This is a quiet "away from it all" village in a picturesque position beside an old three arched bridge spanning the River Taw. It is a very scenic village with interesting houses and pretty cottages dotted throughout. Pleasant farm buildings can be seen in the miles of beautiful agricultural land ringing the village.
Umbersleigh offers visitors a peaceful time, walks along the Taw reveal much of mother nature's rich bounty and there is the opportunity to enjoy fishing and horse riding. In the village there is a Post Office, a couple of stores, an antique shop and a pleasant village inn.
The village is on the "Tarka line train" a fabulous railway journey through some of Devon's finest countryside. The line operates special events, included in these is a pub run and a music run, or you can use the train to take you to one of the other villages for a special day out.
Close by is Chittlehampton, a village with a fine collection of quaint thatched cottages, a lovely village square and an interesting historic church.
Umbersleigh can be found between South Moulton and Great Torrington, both these towns have museums recording the history of the region, and a little more in the way of shopping facilities.
This village is the perfect place to relax for a romantic weekend, or to use as a base for exploring the wild beauty of the Exmoor National Park.
