About Breaston
The village of Breaston lies slightly to the south east of Derby. It is a place with a history stretching back to the Doomsday Book of 1086.
Of particular note in the village is the 13th century Church of St.Michael with its recently restored soaring spire, spotted for miles around and which tops a short square clock-face tower. This ancient building occupies a peaceful setting, it has many treasures from the past and is well worth seeing.
Around the village there are some interesting properties of note, these are mostly contained with a conservation area, but there is good architecture both in Breason and its surrounding region.
During the latter half of the 19th century the economy of the village largely depended upon the local lace-making industry, lace is still made in some parts of Derbyshire to-day, but not on such a large scale.
For visitors who chance to be this way Breaston's fine Millennium Sensory Garden is worth spending time in, also the delightful Butterfly garden.
Pubs in the area include The Chequers Inn close to Breaston village green, and at near-by Draycott there is the well established Coach and Horses.
Both the River Soar and The Trent and Mersey Canal are within reach offering visitors the opportunity for quiet riverside walks, boating, fishing, or simply relaxing with a picnic while enjoying picturesque riverscapes and wildlife.
