The railway bridge over the River Orchy

The railway bridge over the River Orchy

In 2003 the Railway Authorities banned use of the level crossing for pedestrian access to the Castle. A crossing previously used without incident for many decades. Kilchurn Castle

In the 15th century Sir Colin Campbell of Glenorchy built a keep on the site of an earlier MacGregor stronghold. John Campbell, the Ist Earl of Breadalbane extended the castle in 1693 and it was used as a government barracks during the 1745 Jacobite Rising.
