Whitby north pier

The north pier leading to the northern breakwater. The tower is accessible to the public and gives commanding views back down the River Esk into Whitby harbour. Not been up it yet...on the 'to do' list

Whitby whalebones

The famous jaw bones of a whale were donated by Alaska in April 2003. The original whale bone arch was erected around 1853 and is now displayed in the Whitby Archives & Heritage Centre. Lit up at night by lights embedded into the pathway

This chap (or chapess!) has almost reached aduthood judging by the few brown feathers left around the head and neck. Was quite persistant squawking away as if asking for a share of our fish & chips.......didn't get any though!!

Saw this chap settling down for the evening on a slipway into the harbour as we were walking back to the car. It's partner already had it's head tucked away presumably in the land of nod.

The Pier

The wooden outer part if the pier now closed off on safety grounds. With a good high tide you can see the sea between the boards as you walk along which some folk find disturbing

Tourist bus

This marvellous old bus made by Dennis (the fire engine people) takes visitors on a quick tour of Whitby. Didn't go on it....was only too happy just admire it

Towards the town

Looking from the pier towards the town. The wooden pier is closed off at present because they think the little bridge from the concrete pier to the wooden one is unsafe.....hope they get it sorted soon, it's a nice stroll to the end looking down at the sea between the boards under your feet!
