Hi Terry. Welcome to the site.

What size are your photos? I downsize mine to 15 inches along the longest side and 72 dots per inch. They load fairly quickly. When I first cam on here, I was using the full size picture files and they did take a long time. At 15 inches, widest, they still show up looking pretty good. Oh and I changed from IE8 to Firefox. It is a lot faster.

800X600 is plenty of size for viewing. Most DSLR's today are at least 3500X2500 which are way too large for internet viewing. Also using compression, such as .jpg, will speed things up a bit. Hope this helps.
