This is a difficult one - I can see that the privacy would be good in alot of ways but I can also see Sue's point that none of us would probably have joined the forums if we hadn't seen what it was all about. Mmmm.... maybe a members only bit for more sensitive conversations. Probably would be too much to put into practice.

Yeah it was just a thought, say you have to get permission or have posted so many threads/posts before you get access, true about excluding people though, its maybe best to leave it as it is, and just email sensitive stuff!!  i mean who can intercept emails!!! Surprised

I'm sure there are other options out there that someone with more Internet savvy than myself knows about. I have heard people talk of Live Journal (LJ) but have never looked into it myself. I think you have 'friends' and only those friends can read and reply. I'll look into it later (mega busy today) if you want, or someone else can.

Let's not give up. as I too think it's a good idea.

Jason, the email thing might work if we email as a contact group.

I just remembered that on my LOTR board it has the option of a hidden thread. I don't know if POE has that option too, now that would be more what you were talking about Jason.

So I guess we can ask Chris and Sarah about that too, as I really don't want to start on something like Live Journal, it would just take time away from here.

When you say 'members', do you mean the site members or the forum members? or both?

As we know, there are many users of this site (the large majority actually) who have been posting pictures for years but never joined the forum (but they still could anytime, just by using the same account, which currently gives access to all of the Poe feautures).

Would it be ok for them to read or should the Poe Forum member account be more restricted as for the permissions?

You could go the membership fee route for different parts of the site which would also help with running costs. There again I know alot of sites have stopped membership fees such as Friends Reunited because they were losing members to Facebook.

Charging a fee isn't the answer I don't think, it puts people off.

hello everyone

i think we all value our privacy

am i correct in thinking there is a way of sending someone an e-mail if you want

to say something personally to them.

But the great thing about this site is it's openess and so friendly it would be a great shame to lose that.

And of course all the great photographs which we all enjoy looking at

which gives us all inspiration

You are right Bill, we don't want to lose the coneraderie we have here, and we certainly don't want to miss out on new friends joining us.
