I probably mentioned it before, but there is a Yahoo group for Canon DSLR enthusiasts that I strongly recommend joining. Go to :

http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Digital-Rebels/

and join up if you feel like it. You'll find all kinds of helpful people there. Plus, the group has a PBase account with hundreds of very good shots in the galleries there. It's a great inspiration, in addition to a tremendous educational resource.

I've just pulled up the page, Len. Thank you again for the link. I will need as much help as I can get.

Did you read the post by Moribundian about the sun and the clouds? We were wondering if you could answer his question.

I can't find it at the moment, but when I do I will post the link here. You may find it before me.

I was wrong, it was a post by Andy Edwards called Something that has puzzled me for years. Here is the link http://www.picturesofengland.com/forum/Off-Topic_Chat/1264

Well, here I am back on-forum again after being entirely too busy for the past fortnight. I mean, isn't "too busy to read all the forums" by definition, "too busy"?? Wink

I answered your question with a theory of my own, on the thread you linked to, but it's just my theory.

On the subject of photographic equipment, I just received today my new Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM zoom lens! I ordered it from Adorama last Sunday afternoon and I can't wait to start using it.

Len's back, whoo hoo! Good to see you back on the forum Len.

I must not covet your new lens, I could really have done with one today on my bird watching trip. Two Sandhill Cranes flew over me very low, calling. I could have got a super shot of them.

Oh Roy, I had the best morning bird watching, I kept thinking if only I had that zoom lens.

I'm going to post the great birds I saw over on the Hobbies thread. Not too sure if anyone's interested, but I'll post it in any case.

Thanks for the welcome - Wow, I'll have to go away more often!! Tongue out

One reason I bought the battery grip was that I could put two batteries in it and lengthen my shooting time between charges. That's even more of an advantage if/when you use image-stablized lenses, lots of flash, etc., that draws from the camera batteries. The battery grip also includes (what I call) an "emergency" insert that will hold AA cells. I have one loaded with Lithium AA cells just in case I'm out facing a great shot and my regular batteries are dead. AAs are the best for long term use, but it's nice to have a little reserve on hand.

I am guessing that it attaches to the camera. Does it make it bulky or harder to handle? I will look into this next week in Oregon.

My husband just asked me how much more I am going to buy for the camera, bless him, he has no idea.

Sue.

I had a look at the battery grip yesterday. The salesman let me attach it to my camera and have a play with it. It is a handy bit of gear, but i found it to be bulky and heavy and difficult to get to grips with.  It would be OK for studio work, but i don't fancy lugging all that extra weight round the fields all day. For the cost, £125.00p, I would rather put the cash to somthing far more useful, like that 70-300mm lens.  You will have no difficulty in carring a spare battery in your pocket.

Regards to you and to your long suffering husband.

Roy J.
