A picture of Newbury
In September 1643, both the Royalist and Parliamentary armies were heading towards London when they met at Newbury. The Royalists blockading any attempt to pass by Newbury to the south. From here to the distant hills and beyond at Wash Common, the First Battle of Newbury would commence.
