Lincoln Castle has always been a centre of justice so it is not surprising that the Judges' Lodgings can be found just outside the east gate (and the only gate in use until recent years) of Lincoln Castle. This fine yellow-brick Georgian building designed by William Hayward dates from 1809. The stone pediment above the front door, made from Coade stone, bears the Hanoverian version of the Royal Coat of Arms. To this day the building still provides accommodation for the High Court Judges when they are presiding at the Crown Court.
