The approach to the house most used, apart from on formal occasions, would have been through the archway and into the courtyard, viewed here from the house, to the west entrance as the family lived privately in the west wing of the house. The clock tower over the archway is designed on an axis with, and to complement, the cupola on top of the house itself.
