The chimney stands at 300 feet high & was the brainchild of Eccles Shorrock, the chimney was based on the venetian campanile, the original of which fell down in 1902 and a replica was built in 1912,(Venice Italy),.The base of India Mill Chimney is a block of stone and was quarried near Cadshaw Bridge, which required 35 horses to move it.
