My IntroductionGoing Placesby Sally BirchHaving recently discovered Pictures of England on the internet I decided to upload a couple on my photo’s and hey presto! I was hooked. After a couple of weeks I started to explore the website a bit further and found “articles”, and wondered whether I could make a worthwhile contribution. I’ll leave you to be the judge. All my life I have been an avid camper and caravanner, using all types of equipment from the smallest of lightweight tents to quite luxurious touring caravans and have travelled the UK and Europe extensively summer and winter happily snapping away with a variety of cameras when I saw something of interest. Giving up my old SLR was quite a wrench and frankly I didn’t have a clue what to do with my first digital compact camera; not enough pixels was my first complaint but then technology improved and I upgraded. Even so the compacts of the day were not for me and the wonderful DSLR’s available were beyond my pocket. It was at this point that I discovered the digital bridge camera and shortly after the wonder of RAW files. I can now play happily with my new camera and will not hanker for a DSLR and two or three lenses etc at least for the moment. Although I have been a member of the Camping and Caravanning Club for more than thirty-five years I have only just discovered their photographic section and am looking forward to attending my second rally with them. Last year I attended their Exhibition Rally and boy was I impressed by the quality and variety of images on show. Some entries by amateur photographers with letters after their names no less. Dare I submit an entry this year I ask myself? They are such friendly lot and I keep telling myself that their comments can only help me improve my images but can my elderly ego cope I wonder? Closing date for entries is July so I intend to see if I can take a few images which might be worth entering in the beginners’ class. While I’m out looking for my “super” shots I shall be writing about the places I visit for the Forum. So far I plan to visit North Yorkshire; Cornwall; Malvern; County Durham; East Anglia; and Devon so “super” or not I should have a variety of images to upload for you to comment on. Sally Birch
About the author Sally BirchI live in the West Midlands with my husband, we have one son who is married with three children and they live in Lincolnshire so sadly we don't see them as much as we would like. Our passion is camping and caravanning, a hobby I have persued since I was a child and we are both actively involved in a large camping and caravanning club. These days we have given up "tenting" and use a fairly small two berth caravan for our trips away. Camping and caravanning fits nicely with my interest in photography and I get to lots of interesting places where I can click away to my hearts content,More articles on PicturesOfEngland.com...
